Frequently Asked Questions

Sugaring is an ancient form of hair removal. It is a mixture of sugar, water, and lemon juice melted to make a paste. It is a highly effective way to. unwanted body hair quickly and leaves your skin silky smooth. Sugaring hair removal dates back to 300BC in ancient Egypt. Ancient Egyptians believed that all body hair was unclean and remover all their body hair regularly. It has since been on of the most common hair removal methods of choice for most of the Middle East throughout the ages.

Sugar removes the hair from the root, whereas wax removes the hair from the skin surface, often breaking the hair beneath the skin surface. This can lead to an increased chance of ingrown hairs. Sugar doesn’t adhere to the skin and is resin free.

Although sugaring is a fairly safe method of hair removal, it’s not for everyone. It’s important to consider the following situations:

Yes, you can still get sugared on your period. However, skin can feel more sensitive during that time of the month.

Your skin can change in many ways — such as increased sensitivity — during pregnancy.

If your doctor gives you the green light, just remember to tell your sugaring technician so they can tailor your treatment, if necessary.

It’s best to remove any genital jewelry before your appointment so that it doesn’t interfere with the sugaring process. If you can’t remove your jewelry, tell your technician. They’ll likely be able to work around it — just know that there might be a few stray hairs where they’re unable to apply the paste.

It’s best to not sugar any sunburned areas and to wait a week or so for the sunburn to heal completely before sugaring... The exfoliation can irritate the burn.

Although sugaring is a fairly safe method of hair removal, it’s not for everyone. It’s important to consider the following situations.

  •  If you’re taking antibiotics, hormone replacement medication, hormonal birth control, Accutane, or retinol. If your using retinol/retinoid creams, it's best to wait 48 days after your last dose before sugaring. Retinoids can temporarily weaken the skin barrier and decrease the thickness of the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of skin.
  • Treatments like chemotherapy and radiation can also make skin more sensitive.

This entirely depends on your personal pain tolerance.  Sugaring is usually considered less painful than waxing because the mixture doesn’t adhere to the skin.

  • Please come with CLEAN DRY SKIN. Be mindful not to use scrubs and body washes with lotion or oils prior to your appointment.
  • Your hair should be at least ¼-inch long - longer than the size of a grain of rice.
  • A few days before your appointment, lightly exfoliate the area. This will help prevent stray hairs from getting left behind.
  • Avoid tanning at least 48 hours before your appointment.
  • The day of, minimize your caffeine and alcohol intake to prevent your pores from tightening.
  • Dress in loose, cotton clothing for maximum comfort.
  • To minimize pain, take an over-the-counter pain reliever about 30 minutes -1 hour before your appointment.
  • Be sure to use the restroom before your appointment.

The initial 24 hours following your sugaring session are crucial for ensuring your skin remains irritation-free and smooth.

DO:

  • Wear loose-fitting clothing. This is especially true for bikini or Brazilian wax.
  • Wait 48+ hours after sugaring to resume a biweekly exfoliating regimen.
  • Resume your moisturizing routine 24 hours after your session. Apply your moisturizer while skin is still damp post-shower to lock in moisture.

DON'T:

  • Touch freshly sugared skin with your hands.
  • No sun, hot tubs, pools or cosmetic products with fragrance for 48 hours post-treatment as skin is more susceptive to UV rays and bacteria during this time.
  • No exercise within 24 hours after your sugaring appointment. Exercising can cause sweating as well as friction on the skin.
  • Medical experts advise waiting 24 hours after a Brazilian treatment to get intimate with a partner. If you’re prone to ingrowns, 48 hours is advised.
